Without
your help, the many programs and services we offer to the community,
most at little or no cost, could not continue. Please make a donation
today.
In 1998 we dedicated the Yidishkayt mural on our building, on
the 90th anniversary of Workmen’s Circle in Southern
California. Our
mural is a living landmark for Jewish Los Angeles and truly one of
the finest murals in our mural-rich city. It not only beautifies our
building but expresses so well what we do here—social justice,
Jewish values, Yiddish culture, our progressive sense of history, our
positive vision for the future.
In the years since, rain and weather, earthquakes and the rumbling of heavy trucks
have all taken their toll. In a word, our mural needs some
restorative attention. We have contracted with world-renowned
Nathan Zakheim Associates (NZA), really the best in this field, whose father Bernard Zakheim, a significant
New Deal-era artist, was active with The Workmen’s
Circle in the Bay Area. He was on the organizing committee for the
“First Yiddish Art Exhibition” in San Francisco in June of 1930.
Nathan grew up with Workmen’s Circle values and traditions. His
work for us is basically just costs.
We invite
all our members, neighbors, friends and readers, from near and far,
to contribute toward the mural restoration. Donations of $500 or more
will earn you a name inscription on the wall.
Chair Plaques:

Program Specific Support
Make a
donation directly to the programs that have touched your life! Our
Yiddish classes, choruses, film series, holiday programs, are all
subsidized by donors like you so that people from throughout the Los
Angeles community can experience welcoming, progressive Jewish culture
and tradition, regardless of their ability to pay. Earmark your
donation to the program of your choice and it will be used directly to
keep Yiddish classes running, choruses singing, and our Peysakh seder
alive!
All
donations to the Workmen’s Circle are tax-deductible to the
fullest extent allowed by law. All checks should be made payable to
"The Workmen's Circle" and mailed to 1525 S. Robertson Blvd., Los
Angeles CA 90035.
Another way to support the Workmen’s Circle is to join! Consider
committing to our mission of Jewish identity and participation in
Jewish life through Jewish, especially Yiddish, culture and education,
friendship, mutual aid and the pursuit of social and economic justice
by becoming a member — in addition to actively participating in
our programs.
