A panel discussion about the corrosive influence of corporate
money in politics -- moderated by Sholem member Jeff Share, a faculty
advisor for UCLA's Teacher Education Program. Three activists
on the front lines of the social justice movement will discuss the
campaign to pass an amendment striking down the
Citizens United
decision, the 2010 U.S. Supreme Court case which held that the First
Amendment prohibits the government from restricting independent
political expenditures by corporations and unions. The speakers will
also highlight the fight for clean elections, the continued influence of
the Occupy movement and its messages, as well as efforts to preserve
endangered civil liberties.
The panelists will be:
- Anjuli Kronheim, Los Angeles organizer for California Common Cause.
- Mary Beth Fielder, award-winning filmmaker, teacher and activist.
- Lauren Steiner, writer and activist.
Admission to the event is free.
Co-Sponsored with The Sholem Community, the event will take place at the Westside Neighborhood School, 5401 Beethoven Street Los Angeles, CA 90066
